The scene over the last few weeks looks very different as the leaves continue to turn and the flowers begin to fade.  There are still many bursts of colour including the geraniums in the remaining hanging baskets and those resilient rudbeckias.  There are a few roses still blooming and the dahlia has flowered again with its brilliant red blooms.

I have been busy preparing for the Thanksgiving weekend from baking the apple pies, making a lovely butternut squash soup and cranberry sauce.  I have put up a few fall accents.  It is also very easy at this time of the year to do an Autumn arrangement with plenty of fall material provided by the garden.  Little is left now in my vegetable patch but I still have plenty of carrots and parsnips which will be roasted as part of the Thanksgiving dinner.

As I continue with my walks through the park I love seeing all the various berries and the changing colours of the foliage.  Great material to practice my photography on.

One of the last perennials to bloom are the fall asters (michaelmas daisies).  They grow in abundance in my garden and next spring I have to pull some of the out as they take over my beds.

deep-purple-aster2There are plenty of gardening jobs to do from raking leaves on the flower beds (for winter protection), bulbs to plant plus continuous pruning and cutting back.  For now though it’s time for me to take a break and enjoy spending a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.
