Flower nursery, Mable LakeSmall flower nursery

After all the entertaining after the July long weekend, my husband and I decided to explore the other side of Mable Lake.  When we camped the other week in the Provincial Park (reached by turning off at Lumby), we noticed a community on the other side of the lake with an air strip.  This time we traveled to Mable Lake via Enderby.  Along the way, we discovered several small nursery businesses specializing mainly in annuals and hanging baskets.  They mainly cater to the cabin community who want to add a little color to their properties during the summer season.  I was particularly taken with the nursery above (sadly I did not get their name).  However, the owner was very creative with both their baskets and containers and despite it being early July, the stock still looked really healthy.  We eventually arrived in the small community of Kingfisher and had a lovely lunch at the Mable Lake Golf & Country club.  This will definitely be an area that we will return to as there were a number of RV places to stay at giving you options to golf and go boating.

Meanwhile in my garden we have continued to do further pruning.  Once the front arbor rose dies down, my husband does a great job of trimming it all back as it does get a little bit unruly.

The fruits of my labor back in March are starting to pay off now.  Finally, the potted freesias have bloomed.  Changing the soil mix to a more sandy composition really helped and most of the bulbs I planted bloomed. Freesias

There are areas of my garden showing more color than others.  I am happy with a corner in the front bed with the lavender, shasta daisy, delphiniums and phlox in full bloom.  The pond area too has filled in really well …it is lovely to sit nearby and hear the splash of the small fountain that my husband installed. Just a few moments to sit back and enjoy the scents of the garden before my next guests arrive.
