My Early Summer Garden

After being away from the garden for a few days I can’t believe how much everything has grown.  This year has been particularly different with more rain in our Okanagan region than we have ever had at this time of year.  This in turn has brought the garden on and I can truly say that my English Cottage style garden is at its best.  From the lavender to the climbing roses it truly depicts the cottage garden style.  It has taken me three years to create climbing roses on the arbour. After several attempts it has finally paid off and the roses particularly on the left side have reached the top.

MY ROSE ARBOUR

Meanwhile there are other roses currently blooming.  I didn’t hesitate to cut a few and the bouquet is simply amazing with the heavily laden scent.

ROSE SEASON

As the peonies fade the early summer perennials fill in those much needed gaps including shasta daisy, gallardia (blanket flower), lychnis, lavander. sildalcea and malva.  More importantly though I was so happy to see the first of my dahlias bloom (Petra’s Wedding) which I started off early in the greenhouse.

EARLY SUMMER PERENNAILS

I have been busy pruning and deadheading in between showers.  I know that we have had a lot of rain this year in sharp contrast to last year when we were affected by a heat dome.  Thankful that hopefully it will diminish forest fires.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and will be able to spend some relaxing time in the garden.

Oh I forget to mention, my husband and I visited a beautiful garden just outside of Kamloops last week and they had the most amazing water feature.  Just loved it.
