At this time of the year I always find it hard to keep up with everything in the garden and I am never short of inspiration photography wise. The garden is looking at its best with vibrant flower colours and lush green foliage. I have a wonderful display of tulips this year and I am very encouraged with the new shoots coming through on perennials that I grew from seed last year.
The rockery garden always looks good early in the gardening season with arabis, iberis and alyssum saxatile currently in flower. I particularly like the low growing veronica with its delicate blue flowers, the creeping phlox and dainty blue forget-me-not.
The lacy leaf weeping japanese maple by the pond is doing well and is definitely a good feature tree. I always winter this over though as it is rather on the delicate side. One of my other favourite perennials flowering right now is the anemone pulsatilla (pasque flower) with its feathery buds and eventual rosy red flowers.
There are so many flowers in the garden attracting the bees from the white and yellow star tulips to the blossoms on my peach tree.
Looking back to this time last year we were anxious with the rising creek in the area we live in. It is running high again this year and it is of concern as there is still a large snow pack to melt. Fortunately boulders have been placed to redirect the water flow and I keep fingers crossed that this will be sufficient. As I sit on my deck early in the morning the noise from the creek gets louder each day.

Meanwhile in the greenhouse I have been daily attending the seedlings and as the weather has been so warm I have hung up my hanging baskets. This year I did actually cut back from six baskets to four. I have also limited the number of outside containers. I am hoping that this will make life easier when we have to go away for different periods of time throughout the summer and fall.
Last but not least I want to wish all mothers young and old a very Happy Mother’s Day.
