As we progress through Fall, many flowers and shrubs have died back but there is still a large amount of  foliage in the garden to continue on the colour.  Whenever I consider purchasing a plant or shrub, I am not only looking for eye-catching blooms but also interesting foliage.  One of my favourite perennial plants is a variegated euphorbia with its striking yellow and green leaves.  For winter colour I also enjoy the maroon coloured leaf variety that I have close to the pond.  Eventually the leaves will die off but they have lasted well into the Fall.  There are many varieties of euphorbia.  For further information visit:  http://www.finegardening.com/spurge-euphorbia

Even planting a few herbs together adds interest to my rock garden.  I love the bright yellow leaves on the oregano next to the thyme with its bluish/grey foliage.  I not only have a herb pot but have clumps of herbs throughout the garden.  The thyme and oregano are pretty hardy and thrive during the Winter.

The variegated stone crop is a great rockery plant which is adding colour to this area.  I particularly like the pink rosettes nestled in among the rocks.

I know I have mentioned in earlier posts too that the berries also continue to add colour to the garden.  Pity that my cotoneaster berries will not last until Christmas as I love to add foliage with berries to my outdoor Christmas wreath.

Under the large mound of leaves there is still new life to be found.  Buds are appearing on both my white winter heather and on the hellebores.

Sad though to see the asters and sedums dying off.  They really lasted well.
