Gardening is not only about creating an array of colourful blooms which we all aim to achieve throughout the growing seasons.  Using various kinds of foliage adds a whole new dimension to the garden landscape.  When planning a garden I always look for trees, shrubs and plants that have different textures and colours.

Eryngium is one of my favourite perennials that provides interest to the garden with its spiky silver leaves.

Around the pond area the different textured pond plants and the variegated sedums provide a colourful palate even when the early blooming flowers have faded.

Smoke bushThe smoke bush (cotinus coggygria) is a great shrub to use in the garden landscape for contrast and even the silver leaves on the fuchsia in the container below makes it more interesting than just the regular version. Silver leaved fuchsia container-8695So when you are next out looking for new material to add to the flower beds take in consideration finding something a little more unusual which will enhance your garden design.
