I have to say that as I get older, the less I enjoy the cold and snow, but having said that I was talking to a friend the other day who stated that I should “embrace” the winter. Once again we are looking after my daughter’s dog, Rufuss, so it was a good excuse this morning to put on the snow pants etc. and take him for a walk. It was just starting to snow and with the sun slightly filtering through, it did look very picturesque.
Over the weekend, I put together a simple centrepiece. I always like the florist department at Safeway and the other day I picked up a small variegated holly and poinsettia. I rummaged around my shed for a suitable shallow pot and found a basket to put it in. Fortunately I still had a small amount of potting soil so I was able to plant these purchases together with some forced bulbs and added some greenery. As there were no natural berries on the holly, I just inserted some artificial ones. This container will keep for some time with watering and I will at least be able to eventually plant out the holly in the garden and the bulbs when they have finished blooming.
