Rock garden, early summer

As I have been going around the garden taking fall photos, I thought this would be a good opportunity to compare how the beds looked in spring time to how they now appear in the fall.  Obviously over the summer months the plants in general have doubled in size but it confirms though how I have aimed to keep the color going as long as possible creating interest throughout the seasons.  The colors too are more vibrant earlier in the year and now are more subdued but with more varied tones in the foliage.

Even though the blue flax flowers have long since died off, this bed still benefits from the contrast of the silver/grey stalks.  I have already cut this plant back once but it has since regrown.
