Returning to Lightening Lake, Manning Park, BC evokes so many memories.   We had many a camping trip here when our children were young; celebrated a 50th birthday and even had a full on Thanksgiving dinner surrounded by snow.  These days it is very difficult to get into Lightening Lake without making a reservation.  We need not have worried though as there were plenty of sites to be found following the Labour Day long weekend.

We initially lucked out with the weather too experiencing crystal blue skies with scattered white fluffy clouds.  However, once the sun went down the temperatures plummeted and we were thankful to be in our RV.  Despite the chilly evenings we huddled around our propane fire surrounded by close family.

Most of the wild flowers have faded except for the everlasting pearl (anaphalis) and wild aster plus plenty of berries which attract the bears.  The Mule Deer campground is completely closed as the bear there is a little too friendly.

As I sit quietly reading my book it is lovely to hear the wind through the trees and smell the scents from the many varieties of evergreen trees.  It truly is getting away from it all especially as there is no cell service; a welcome break from being attached to the iPhone or iPad.

We fitted in a number of walks around the lake and watched the fish jump along with the odd kayaker or two.  Really treasured our stay here particularly as our niece was visiting from the UK.  We also got to spend valuable time with our grandchildren.
