Hydrangea Paniculata (Limelight)

I felt I needed to do a featured post on the Hydrangea Paniculata (limelight) which is starting to bloom in the Findleberry Garden.  This is most definitely the shrub that stands out the most each gardening season and it has almost doubled in size since first planting it almost 3 years ago now.

Hydrangea Paniculata close up-8633This shrub not only rewards you with white cone shaped blooms in the Summer but as the season progresses, the blooms turn to various shades of pink and by the fall, with the leaves turning too, it adds another dimension to the garden.

Once the blooms have faded I cut the hydrangea back (not too far though) and in the Spring I cut out any cross branches and keep the middle of the bush clear to allow sunlight in promoting further growth.

No matter how big or small your garden is I certainly recommend you plant one of these.  There are new varieties out now; I wish I had room to plant another one.  Enjoy!
