I was thankful to have spent the last few days of September camping at our favourite spot, Skimikin Lake (https://www.facebook.com/Skimikin-Forestry-Campsite-567741546646373/ ). We certainly savoured the warm sunny days and huddled around the campfire as the sun went down. The scenes around are continually changing with varying light. I love the reflection of the turning bushes and trees in the lake. If you look closely our RV is nestled among the trees. My husband managed to catch a few fish; they were just tiddlers so he released them. During our stay we explored around the Salmon Arm and Tappen area. We were quite taken with the town of Salmon Arm which hosts small boutique and used book stores. When we are camping it is the only time I seem to be able to read a full book. My friend kindly bought me “The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Society”, a must read. The film on Netflix is good too. We were certainly sad to leave however with the weather turning to rain it was probably a good thing.
As we approach Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, I am starting to dismantle the hanging baskets and containers. I will make them last just a little longer in the greenhouse before moving the tender plants to the garage. I have been very successful at keeping the geraniums, fuchsias and the occasional osteospermum going for a few years now. Meanwhile the Findleberry garden is slowly changing as the leaves turn and the flowers fade. I still have a few spots of colour provided by the hydrangea paniculata, some bright pink miniature roses, yellow-flowered heleniums and asters.
Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.
