Next on the list is both the annual and perennial rudbeckias (black-eyed susan). You truly do get your money’s worth with these mid border plants. They have been flowering now since mid July. The annual variety is starting to fade but the perennial one is still in bloom.
Roses are part of the cottage garden theme and once again I have a couple that have excelled – the double apricot and my crimson rose. I think this is now the third wave of flowers.
Other plants of note from earlier in the year were the Canterbury bells (a mid border campanula), the heleniums (back of the border perennial) and of course my peonies. Peonies sadly only bloom for a short period and often come into flower just when we are getting early summer rainfalls. My oriental poppies are one of the first to bloom with their bright salmon pink flowers. I do love the salvias too both perennial and annual which work great in flower arrangements.
Last but not least is the Hydrangea Paniculata starting off with white conical flowers which have now turned to tones of light and deep pink. This is the feature shrub in my garden. Neighbours and visitors in my area cannot help but stop and make a comment on how outstanding it is.
It will be hard to see these plants fade but now we are shifting seasons I look forward to the golden hues of Fall.
Until next time…..
