New Wave of Growth – Buds Appearing Everywhere Throughout the Garden

As we near the end of March, more buds are appearing on the shrubs in my garden and even though the weather has been cool, there is a new wave of growth throughout.  The lilac bushes are smothered with new buds and close up you can get a glimpse of the purple flower just waiting to open up. New leaves on variegated spirea-3982 New leaves on variegated spirea, reddish leaves-3984 My gold flame spirea which I heavily pruned earlier this year has a mass of new leaves and I just love the orange/red colours of the new growth.     Meanwhile in my rockery garden the purple euphorbia has masses of new leaves adding colour to the bed. New growth on the euphorbia-3987 There are new bulbs appearing too.  I just love the blue chionodoxa (commonly known as “Glory of the Snow”) which starts off looking like a bluebell and then opens up to a delightful star shaped flower.  I am still patiently waiting for my tulips to flower.   Chinodoxia good-3973 Chinodoxia Opened-3958 Most of my crocuses have died down but I have a few new purple and white ones blooming and close up they have very striking features. Purple and white crocus-3949 Primroses too are finally putting on a spurt of growth and I particularly like this lemon double flowered variety. Lemon double primrose-3971 Even though it may seem there has not been much growth this month, when you look a little closer there is plenty to discover.  Overall views of my garden beds starting with the rockery garden shows the witch hazel still in bloom with various bulbs at the base along with the new foliage on the euphorbia.  The pond has been filled and the fish have safely been transferred from the aquarium.  I am sure they are a lot happier having a larger area to swim in.  The front bed shows new shoots on the lilies, helleborus and heather in bloom and the spirea bush in leaf.
