  1. Highlights of the June Garden, Kelowna Garden Tour and visit to Davison Orchards.

A little behind on my posts as this past week my husband and I have been very busy looking after our active grandchildren.  It always gives us the opportunity though to visit different venues in Kelowna and Vernon to keep them entertained.

Mid June we went on the 2018 Kelowna Garden Tour.  We particularly enjoyed visiting gardens in the Bennett Estate.  With established trees most of the beds were on the shady side but it allowed many displays of hosta and astilbe.

We were also very impressed with the landscape design in the Anton garden which incorporated a beautiful water feature created by Loppykums Pond & Koi (http://www.loopykums.com/).   The rocks were very well placed and there was a great selection of rockery plants blooming well in the scree beds.

June temperatures were unseasonably cool which has resulted in a delay of some of my annuals blooming, in particular the sweet peas.  The hanging baskets have certainly thrived and despite some black spot on the arbour roses, they have put on a good show this year.  The cottage garden flowers too which I grew from seed last year have performed well, including foxglove and cantebury bells (campanula).

With a visit to Davison Orchards as well as some cherry picking with the grandchildren this pretty much wrapped up the end of June for us including time well spent with family over the July long weekend.  Hope you all enjoyed your Canada Day celebrations.

As we move onto July I look forward to seeing the various hydrangeas in bloom, in particular my limelight variety.  There will be plenty of yellow and reds provided by the rudbeckia, sunflower and lychnis;  some of which are already currently in bloom.

I shall be busy this week harvesting the red currants and making red currant jelly and already I have been getting a daily supply of raspberries with a few strawberries thrown in.  Plenty of yellow blooms on the varied tomato plants in the greenhouse so will certainly be getting a good harvest from there too.

Until next time….
