This is the time of the year that I reflect on the year’s accomplishments. Overall, I was very pleased with the progress in my garden and since I have started my gardening blog, I have enjoyed enhancing my photography skills (although there is still plenty of room for improvement). In fact, the Findleberry Garden has given me inspiration for some of my Christmas gifts this year.
In the next couple of weeks I will start gathering foliage from the woodland around us to create some natural Christmas decorations for both outside and eventually for indoors. This is something I have done for many years now. I just love the smell of the fresh greens whether I use pine, fir, cedar or spruce and I am lucky to have this material close at hand. There are different trimmings you can add from red berries to different coloured ribbons and balls to create a festive garland, wreath or centrepiece. I noticed around Remembrance Day that fresh greens were already for sale outside the chain stores but I would say it is just a little too early as by the time Christmas arrives they would have dried out. The fresh indoor decorations (with my husband’s assistance) we create at least a week before Christmas especially the garlands on the mantel above the fireplace.
I will be doing a separate post on my fresh green creations.
