It is really hard to know where to begin. These last few weeks have certainly gone in a flash. This was one of the easiest cruises to go on (Pacific Princess). Our daughter dropped us off at Pan Pacific and we lapped up the sunshine as we sailed under the Lions Gate Bridge and I was amazed at the beautiful sunsets initially along our journey.
Highlights of the trip for me were the Glaciers in Glacier National Park, our trip to White Pass just across the border into the Yukon and being able to taste Alaskan crab – a real treat, not forgetting all the whale sightings along the way as well as dolphins and porpoises. Above all though I was able to spend some special moments with my friend Glenda and her husband. Coming face to face with a Glacier was truly an experience. All those years ago when we learnt about glaciers in school really did not sink in, but physically being able to see one made a world of difference. During the White Pass tour we were able to walk on the tundra and it was interesting to see the wild blueberries and lichen. It always amazes me how anything can grow in freezing conditions and being under snow for the majority of the year. One of my favorite stops was Skagway, with colorful architecture and magnificent back drops. We were very fortunate weather wise and it was only at our last port in Ketchikan where it poured with rain all day. Sailing home was lovely too seeing all the different islands sometimes engulfed in mist and low cloud, but still beautiful.
We finally arrived home yesterday and I have literally been spending all day in the garden today trying to tame it again. There must have been a lot of rain while we were away as I had to fight my way through the garden gate as the climbing rose had sent out long shoots everywhere. More to follow in my next post.
Happy Memories of our Trip.
