Thankfully a reprieve from the intense heat which has taken its toll on some of my annuals despite me continually deadheading, watering and fertilizing.  My sweet peas though are doing well and one of the dwarf hollyhocks that I grew from seed has started to bloom.  I was hoping that I would have a few sunflowers blooming in time for my friend’s daughter’s wedding.  In the end I just had one starting to bloom which I put in an arrangement for the occasion.

I am pleased to see that the rudbeckias that I grew from seed are just starting to bud but in some ways I think it’s too soon.  They usually do not bloom until August and I feel that summer is going by too fast.  Another annual which I am really pleased with is the giant mixed nasturtiums that I grew from seed.  I popped some in baskets, containers, in the vegetable garden and in my borders.  I particularly like the way it is trailing down from one of my baskets.

In addition to the many varied plant materials, I do like to create points of interest in the garden.  I love my lantern by the pink hydrangea and the bird bath that I bought many years ago in Agassiz by the blue flax.

Since starting my blog, one of the things that I enjoy the most is connecting with people from all over the world sharing the same ideas and experiences.  Looking forward to getting out in the garden again before varied guests arrive over the next month.
