I am not sure if it is my imagination or not but with the early warm weather this year it seems that everything is advanced in the garden including the lilacs. Who can not resist the fragrant flowers of the lilac tree or bush.
Lilac (Syringa) is a flowering woody shrub which is always a welcome sight in the garden. Even though the flowers do not last long when cut, I still enjoy the blooms and the fragrance they create throughout the house. As the flowers bloom on old wood, you do have to be very careful when you are pruning. I have made the mistake many a time of pruning too hard and having very little blossoms the following year.
