I felt I had to write a post this morning as I take in the early morning hues of light denoting a seasonal shift. This is when I love to take photos. The lower sun creates golden tones in the garden. The flowers seem more vibrant as they put on their last spurt of growth.
The front patio area is still full of colour as the hanging baskets and containers continue to bloom. The initial basket stuffers have faded but the staples, i.e. geraniums and fuchsias continue to thrive. I am still doing a little fertilizing to help them along.
I am really impressed with the pink begonia this year in my basket along the front railing. It has just bloomed profusely all summer long. I am hoping with storing the tuber in a cool spot free from frost it will come back next year.
Meanwhile in the garden beds many of the perennials have faded. I did manage to pick up a few bargain plants from Dogwood Nursery and Home Depot to create late summer blooms. I am pleased with the echinacea which the bees love. I am never too successful with penstemon but with extra mulch I hope it will survive. I also picked up another Virburnum. Looking forward to it flowering next Spring.
The perennials that are still blooming along with the odd rose are the rudbeckias, phlox and sunflowers. I can’t say enough about using both the annual and perennial rudbeckias as they have such long lasting blooms. The odd cosmos and even sweetpea are still flowering.

The seasonal shift reflects changes in the garden, i.e. the Sedum “Autumn Joy” heads are forming with a slight touch of pink. Red, red berries on the cotoneaster. Leaves changing on both my main Japanese Maple tree and the lacy leaf maple by the pond.

I have a favourite spot to sit on my front porch drinking coffee and taking in all these morning delights. Until next time….
